THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF ALAMANCE COUNTY
There has been concern lately that what pet lovers are touting as a great new odor-remover is dangerous to pets' whose odor it removes. Upon hearing this, HSAC member went scrambling to do research.

The results show that there are widespread rumours on the internet of Febreeze causing deaths in cats and dogs, although we have yet to see any documented. The ASPCA issued a letter in conjuction with the NAPCC (National Animal Poison Control Center) stating that they have granted Febreeze their seal of approval.

However, this is only when used according to directions and only based on interaction with dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits and rodents. There are more substantiated cases on the internet of bird deaths with the use of Febreeze. The ASPCA even recommends removing birds from the area until fully ventilated. This is due to zinc chloride in the product, which birds are especially sensitive to.

We would recommend being careful with the use of this product around animals.
